Are you interested in learning an instrument? Are you a music fan, a music teacher, or a composer? Do you want to learn more about the history of music? Perhaps you should consider the classical guitar, highly regarded amongst musicians, composers, historians, students and music fans alike.

Not only is the classical guitar an instrument which has been around for hundreds of years (some believe it has existed in some form for over 5000 years!), but it has also survived several vastly different musical movements (from the Renaissance to the Baroque period to the Romantic era to Rock and Roll). Incredibly versatile and portable, the classical guitar has long been a favourite of performers and audiences alike.

It is not hard to understand why the classical guitar is loved as an instrument. It is not difficult to learn, in fact, once you have the basics of plucking and strumming down you can experiment and teach yourself. It is light-weight and inexpensive compared to other instruments such as the piano or drums. It’s incredible range allows it to be played in many different ways and it can be used for just about any style of music – classical, Baroque, rock, folk, or even as the accompaniment to a choir or sing-a-long.

Of course, the fact that many of today’s rock stars play guitar certainly doesn’t damage the instrument’s popularity – from Elvis Presley and Paul McCartney to Bob Dylan, Jack Johnson and Radiohead – all have used the classical guitar in one form or another to improve or alter their sound.
